Kowloon Park Walk

A Stroll through Kowloon Park and the Best View on Hong Kong Island

Today I walked around a bit here in the Tsim Sha Tsui area, which is where my hotel is located. I went to Kowloon Park and after that, I looked for the place with the best view on Hong Kong Island. The Kowloon park is about a 5 minute walk from my hotel, so it’s very close. As most things that I’ve been doing in Hong Kong, this was free but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Kowloon Park The MasterpieceKowloon Park
Kowloon Park is situated near the harbour of Tsim Sha Tsui, where a British military area with barrack blocks used to be, early 20th century. Some remains of this are still in the park, like some old cannons. Just like in Hong Kong Park there is an aviary here, but today it was closed.

There is also a swimming pool and a soccer field. It does seem pretty heavy though, to play soccer here in the heat of the July sun. Going for a swim does seem like a good idea and very tempting actually. Maybe some other day. An indoor sports centre is also located here, where activities like squash and fitness can be performed and many others.

There are several ponds throughout the park and there is a particularly nice one, with some flamingos, special ducks and tropical pigeons in it. It is in the picture below. The good thing about Kowloon Park is that the highrise of Tsim Sha Tsui seems to blend very well with the nature of the park.

Kowloon Park ViewIt is funny to see that there’s such a beautiful park so close to my hotel, but yet I have never actually been there or known about it. It is a little bit hidden behind all the buildings so you would have to know that it’s there to find it. The appearance of the park is a little bit outdated, compared to Hong Kong Park for example, but it’s still a good place to hangout. There are many activities to do, which makes it a bit more interactive and fun then the other parks in Hong Kong.

I have heard that the best place to get a good view on Hong Kong Island, is actually from a car park in the Tsim Sha Tsui area. It’s on top of the Harbour City Shopping Mall but it’s a maze to get there. This mall contains over 700 shops and is huge, even for Hong Kong standards.

To get to the car park the Marco Polo Hotel must be entered, which is close to the harbourside. From here the elevator to the 6th floor should be taken and after a walk out the doors, the carpark is reached. It offers some of the best views.

Car Park View Harbour CityThe other side of the car park has a view on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, where the ICC Tower is located. This is the largest tower in Hong Kong. It has an observation deck on the 100th floor which can be visited for 150 hkd. I’ve already been up there about 3 years ago so I will skip it this time.
